26102 – Safety For Electricians
NCCER Safety for Electricians Module 26102-23 (10 Hours)
Craft Instructor: Donald Callaway
Required Textbook/Materials Electrical Level 1, 11th Edition, NCCER (Pearson). Published: July 14, 2023. Trainee Guide ISBN: 978-0-13-793486-7 Module-specific resources (including 26102-23): ISBN 978-0-13-817451-4 NCCERconnect access card or bundle (recommended for digital delivery; includes Pearson eText, interactive activities, hazard/PPE videos, quizzes, and gradebook).
Preferred Curriculum Delivery Incorporate NCCERconnect as the preferred curriculum delivery blended with Instructor-led presentations. NCCERconnect serves as the primary online platform for self-paced interactive content, eText reading, multimedia resources (including electrical hazard simulations and PPE selection tools), assessments, and progress tracking. This is blended with instructor-led presentations, classroom discussions, demonstrations, practical exercises, and scenario-based training delivered by Craft Instructor Donald Callaway for enhanced engagement and real-world application.
Course Description This module covers the critical safety practices specific to the electrical trade. Trainees learn to recognize and avoid electrical hazards, understand the effects of electricity on the human body, select and use appropriate PPE, follow proper lockout/tagout procedures, and comply with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards. Emphasis is placed on arc flash protection, general construction hazards (Focus Four), and safe work practices for ladders, scaffolds, fall protection, confined spaces, tools, and hazardous materials.
Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of this module, trainees will be able to:
- Identify common electrical hazards including shock, arc flash, and arc blast, and explain factors affecting severity.
- Describe the effects of electrical current on the human body and methods of protection.
- Select, inspect, use, and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including voltage-rated gloves, arc-rated clothing, and face/eye protection per NFPA 70E.
- Demonstrate lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for controlling hazardous energy.
- Discuss OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E standards, approach boundaries, and electrical safety-related work practices.
- Apply safe practices for Focus Four hazards, ladders/scaffolds, fall protection, confined spaces, tools, lifting, and hazardous materials.
- Recognize and mitigate electrical-specific risks on residential, commercial, and industrial jobsites.
Alignment with Kansas Educational Standards Yes. This NCCER module fully aligns with Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards in the Architecture & Construction career cluster, specifically supporting the Construction & Design pathway and Electrical Technology programs (course code 17113). NCCER curricula and credentials (including Core + Electrical Level 1) are recognized in the KSDE CTE Resource Guide as approved industry-validated content and portable credentials for secondary/postsecondary programs, articulation, Perkins funding, and career readiness in Kansas construction trades.
